Kids Fitness

With less and less space available for regular, safe, outdoor activities, and video games and television shows more readily available than ever before, the physical fitness of our children is worse than ever before. In the modern world though, kids fitness is more important than ever if we want to get out of the sedentary culture they are growing up in.

Using the simple tips in this article you should be able to motivate even the most reluctant child into increasing their active play time.

Kids Fitness Tips

  • Be a role model. By showing your children that you are regularly getting exercise, this will encourage them to do the same. In fact, many kids will join in with you just to spend time together. The benefit is three-fold. You get fitter and healthier, so does your child, and you can bond together as you do it.
  • Set motivating fitness goals. Kids are motivated by rewards. You can set individual goals for each family member with a number of fun prizes as a reward for achieving them. You can also create family fitness challenges and have active group fitness sessions that are a lot of fun!
  • Boost their self esteem. There are a number of ways to use self esteem as a way to boost your kids fitness. Focus on health rather than weight, get them used to their body by having a full size mirror in their room, and help them to buy clothes that complement their size. When they achieve a fitness goal continue to encourage them and reward them too.
  • Find activities they love. As you continue to build on your kids fitness, you will find that they naturally enjoy some activities more than others. When you find them, allow them to do these activities more because if they enjoy it, they will continue to stay active and healthy.
  • Overcome excuses. Sometimes you’ll find that your child doesn’t want to do anything active and they will come up with a list of excuses. It’s your job to overcome them and find ways around the problem. Have activities ready for rainy days, vacation trips and any other situation that might make it difficult to keep up your kids fitness.
  • Get a Wii. If, like many kids, your child loves to play video games, you can combine this with fitness by getting a Nintendo Wii. There are hundreds of games and activities to keep children entertained and fit for hours. It’s great fun for the whole family.

Once you start to make fitness a daily part of your childs routine, you’ll find that they very quickly form a habit and their health can improve very quickly. Be sure to combine it with healthy nutrition for kids too and you’ll soon start to see a much happier and healthier child.

Best of all, you’ll grow as a family and enjoy spending time together even more while boosting both yours and your kids fitness.
