Buying gifts for teens can be difficult because they constantly change to fit the latest trends. It’s best to have a game plan, when trying to pick out something that your teen would really like.
Game Systems
There’s nothing that seems to interest teens more today, than the latest game systems. The Nintendo Wii, Sony Playstation 3, and X-Box 360 are the most popular systems with teens. These offer a variety of different types of games, that both boys and girls can enjoy. You can “strap yourself in your seat” and play first person shooting games, or stand up and play games that are controlled by your motion. There are games that even have a personal trainer who will teach you different workouts.
If you’re concerned with how much time your kids are spending on playing video games, realize that the above systems will occupy them with mental or physical activities and puzzles to stimulate their thought processes, and improve problem-solving skills.
Family Heirlooms
A more meaningful gift might be something that has been passed down through your family. Heirlooms are special and of more valuable, in the sense that they can’t be reproduced like any modern gift you could buy today. Your teenage might consider it an honor to own something that has been handed down through generations, like wedding rings, classic cars, tools, etc. One of the most common heirlooms passed on by grandfathers is a watch; probably a pocket watch that was cherished by its owner.
Latest Technology
As kids grow into teenagers, they begin to require more technology to get through life. One gift that is practical yet they are sure to love is a new computer. Today schools can actually assign homework that has to be done on the computer. It’s a great tool for learning, and also having fun. Aside from being a tool for reading and writing, the computer has also become a doorway to the social world.
Another gift your teenager will absolutely love is the current cell phones that are out today. They will enjoy the technology that comes in these miniature pocket computers, and if you want to keep on an eye on them you can install tracking through the phone carrier.
Gift Cards
Unless you know your kid’s taste very well, picking out their clothing yourself might not be the best decision. Instead, give them a gift card to a favorite store. That way they can shop on their own time and pick out exactly what they want, without having to return something they didn’t like. When using a gift card, your teen will learn to budget the money on their own.
Digital Cameras
A great gift for your teenager might be a digital camera. Kids love having pictures of their friends that they can put into an album, or even hang on their walls. You should encourage them to take a lot of pictures, so they can enjoy the memories when they get older. Cameras now come in all different colors, shapes and sizes. Taking pictures can also be a fun hobby for your teen.
When choosing the next gift for your teenager, remember to give some thought to what you plan to buy. If you’re confident that you know your kid’s taste, then go for it and give them something of your choosing. If not so confident, go with a gift card – next time you can get some feedback on the latest things your teenager “is into,” so you’ll have a better idea of what they’ll love.
